Manheim Central sophomore swimmer makes a splash in return from holiday break

  • In addition to Kieffer's four wins Tuesday, the Barons won five more events. Pilsner won the 200 individual medley in 2:13.60 and the 100 backstroke in 58.77, Chase Kirchner claimed the 100 butterfly in 1:03.07 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.04, and Ryan Moreno took the 50 freestyle in 25.74.

Manheim Central sophomore swimmer, Mason Wolfgang, made a significant impact upon returning from the holiday break, setting a new school record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.56 seconds at the Cedar Crest meet. This performance not only broke the previous record but also highlighted his potential for the upcoming District Three Class 2A championships. Wolfgang, who has been swimming since he was six, expressed his surprise and excitement at achieving this milestone, crediting his success to his dedication and the support from his coaches and teammates. His coach, Matt Wolfgang, who is also his father, praised Mason's hard work and the positive influence he has on the team. Mason's achievements are part of a broader narrative of success for the Manheim Central swim team, which has seen multiple swimmers qualify for district championships in recent years.
