  • O'Neill provides the Orioles with the right-handed outfield bat they sought this winter, and it likely rules out a return for free agent outfielder Anthony Santander, given the competition for playing time. The New York Post first reported the deal.

The Baltimore Orioles have acquired outfielder Tyler O'Neill from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for minor league infielder Nick Yorke and left-handed pitcher Victor Santos. O'Neill, who has been with the St. Louis Cardinals for six seasons before moving to Boston, brings a powerful bat to the Orioles, having hit 34 home runs in 2021 and earning a Gold Glove in 2020. Despite his offensive capabilities, his tenure with the Red Sox was marked by injuries and a dip in performance, hitting .248 with 17 home runs in 2023. The Orioles are hopeful that O'Neill can return to his previous form, providing depth and power to their outfield. Meanwhile, the Red Sox gain two promising prospects in Yorke, a second baseman with a strong bat, and Santos, who has shown potential in the minors.
