Transgender women barred from many UK events, excluding majors

Transgender women and nonbinary individuals assigned male at birth will be barred from competing in the female category of many domestic tennis tournaments in Britain starting next month, the Lawn Tennis Association announced Wednesday.
The UK Athletics has introduced a new policy that excludes transgender women from competing in female categories at non-elite events, aligning with World Athletics' regulations which only allow transgender women to compete in the female category if they have not gone through male puberty. This decision impacts grassroots and community-level competitions but does not affect major international events like the Olympics or World Championships, where stricter rules apply. The policy aims to ensure fairness in women's sports by preventing athletes who have experienced male puberty from competing against cisgender women, although it has sparked debate over inclusivity and fairness in sports. Transgender athletes can still participate in the male or open categories. This move reflects a broader trend in sports governance to address the complexities of transgender participation in competitive sports.
