The LPGA and United States Golf Association have modified their eligibility rules to establish what amounts to a female-at-birth policy for competition. In simultaneous announcements, both organiztions updated similar internal competitive rules that effectively ends eligibility for almost all transgender women to compete in championships both organizations run or sanction.
The LPGA and USGA have introduced a new policy that significantly restricts transgender women from competing in women's golf tournaments. This policy, which aligns with guidelines from the World Athletics Council and the International Olympic Committee, requires transgender female athletes to have transitioned before the age of 12 to be eligible to compete. This decision has sparked controversy, with critics arguing it discriminates against transgender athletes and could potentially violate anti-discrimination laws. The policy aims to ensure fairness in competition by maintaining a level playing field, but it has raised concerns about inclusivity and the rights of transgender individuals in sports.
