European Super League promoters call on UEFA to recognise Unity League

  • The promoters of a proposed European Super League have approached UEFA and FIFA to recognise their new competition they say will be rebranded as The Unity League.

The promoters of the European Super League (ESL) have called on UEFA to recognize their proposed "Unity" league, which they claim would be more inclusive and financially beneficial for European football clubs. This call comes after the European Court of Justice ruled that UEFA and FIFA contravened EU law by blocking the formation of the ESL in 2021. The ESL's new proposal, named "Unity," aims to replace UEFA's current competitions with a multi-divisional format involving 60 to 80 teams, ensuring no permanent members and promoting a system where clubs can qualify based on merit. The promoters argue that this model would distribute revenue more equitably among participating clubs, potentially reducing financial disparities in European football. They have urged UEFA to engage in dialogue to find a solution that benefits all stakeholders in European football.
