TGL, a new indoor golf league backed by Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, is set to revolutionize the sport with its innovative format. Scheduled to start in January 2024, TGL will feature six teams of three PGA Tour players each, competing in a tech-infused, 15,000-square-foot arena in Palm Beach, Florida. The league will host 15 regular-season matches followed by playoffs, all condensed into a two-hour live broadcast. Matches will consist of 18 holes, split into two sessions: nine holes of 'Triples' where teams play alternate shot, and nine holes of 'Singles' where players compete head-to-head. The arena will use a massive screen for virtual golf shots, with real grass for short game shots, and players will have a 40-second shot clock. The event aims to attract a new audience by blending technology with traditional golf, offering a faster-paced, team-based competition.
