Manitoba team heading to World Deaf Curling Championships

  • Much of the training takes place at the Cargill Curling Training Centre in Morris. The team is also competing in the Manitoba Open Bonspiel this weekend.

The Manitoba team, consisting of skip Dennis Thurston, third Melvin Hart, second Neil Kitching, and lead Dennis Kitching, is set to represent Canada at the World Deaf Curling Championships in Gangneung, South Korea, from March 16 to 23. This marks the first time Canada has sent a team to this event since 2015. The team, which has been together for about 15 years, qualified for the championships by winning the Canadian title in Saskatoon. They are excited to compete internationally, especially since the championships were canceled in 2021 due to the global health situation. The team has been preparing by focusing on strategy and communication, crucial elements in deaf curling where players use visual signals to communicate on the ice.
