  • Ilia Malinin landed six of his seven planned quad jumps to win his third consecutive U.S. figure skating championship on Sunday.

Ilia Malinin, an 18-year-old figure skater, showcased an extraordinary performance at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Columbus, Ohio, by landing six quadruple jumps to secure his second consecutive national title. His routine included a quad Axel, a jump that has only been successfully completed by him in competition, along with five other quads, although he did fall on one of his quad Lutz attempts. Despite this minor setback, Malinin's score of 310.47 points was more than enough to outdistance his competitors, with Jason Brown and Camden Pulkinen finishing second and third respectively. Malinin's performance not only highlighted his technical prowess but also his resilience, as he managed to maintain his lead despite the pressure and the high expectations following his previous successes.
