JJ Redick, a former NBA player and current ESPN analyst, expressed strong opposition to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver's suggestion to shorten NBA games from 48 to 44 minutes. During an appearance on ESPN's "First Take," Redick argued that reducing game time would not address the underlying issues causing player fatigue and load management. He pointed out that the real problems stem from the increased number of games, including back-to-back games, and the overall schedule intensity. Redick suggested that if the NBA wants to tackle these issues, they should consider reducing the number of games in the season or spacing out the schedule better, rather than simply cutting down the duration of each game. He emphasized that shortening games would not solve the root causes of player wear and tear.
