  • U.S. District Judge Denise Casper denied former Division II baseball player Trey Ciulla-Hall's motion that would have allowed him to play baseball this season at Maryland.

A judge has denied Trey Ciulla-Hall's request for a temporary restraining order that would have allowed him to play basketball for the University of Maryland during the 2024-25 season. Ciulla-Hall, who previously played at the University of Evansville, sought the order to bypass NCAA transfer rules which require a year of residency for second-time transfers unless a waiver is granted. The NCAA had denied his waiver, citing that his mental health reasons for transferring did not meet the criteria for an exception. The judge's decision was based on the lack of evidence showing that Ciulla-Hall would suffer irreparable harm without the injunction, and the court's reluctance to interfere with NCAA's regulatory authority over college sports.
