  • AUCKLAND : New Zealand reached the World Cup for only the third time with a 3-0 win over New Caledonia today but lost in-form Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood to injury. The All Whites join already qualified Japan and co-hosts the US, Canada and Mexico at next year's finals thanks to three second half goals.

New Zealand has secured their spot in the 2023 Women's World Cup after defeating Norway 2-1 in a friendly match, marking their first appearance in the tournament since 2015. However, the victory was overshadowed by an injury to key striker Chris Wood, who limped off the field in the 75th minute with what appeared to be a knee issue. This injury could potentially impact New Zealand's strategy and performance in the upcoming World Cup, as Wood is a pivotal player for the team. The match also served as a significant morale booster for the Football Ferns, who are co-hosting the event with Australia. Meanwhile, Norway, despite the loss, showed resilience and will look to regroup for their next challenges.
