Students at Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI) were polled on the interest of starting an E-Sports team at the school, and Teacher Brady Nurse says the response was significant. Teacher Brady Nurse has led the initiative and says that between 35 and 50 students signed up to be a part of the team,

The Portage Central High School (PCI) is gearing up to launch an e-sports team, aiming to provide students with a competitive platform in video gaming. This initiative reflects the growing recognition of e-sports as a legitimate and educational extracurricular activity, offering benefits like teamwork, strategic thinking, and community building. The school is in the process of selecting games that will be part of the competitive lineup, focusing on titles that are popular in high school e-sports circuits. Additionally, PCI is looking into the logistics such as practice schedules, coaching staff, and potential partnerships with local businesses or organizations to support the team. The program also seeks to foster inclusivity, encouraging participation from all students regardless of their prior gaming experience.
