USGA and LPGA to require female at birth or changing gender before puberty under new policies

The USGA and LPGA have introduced new gender policies that will require transgender women to have been female at birth or to have begun their gender transition before puberty to be eligible to compete in their events. These policies aim to maintain competitive fairness in women's golf. The USGA's policy, effective immediately, applies to its amateur and professional championships, including the U.S. Women’s Open, and requires transgender athletes to have undergone hormone therapy or surgery before puberty. Similarly, the LPGA's policy, which was updated to align with the USGA's, also specifies that transgender athletes must have transitioned before puberty to participate in LPGA events. These changes reflect a broader discussion on transgender participation in sports, focusing on the physical advantages that might be retained from male puberty.
