  • Double Olympic dressage champion Charlotte Dujardin has been suspended from all competition for one year following a horse whipping controversy that saw her withdraw from the Paris Games.

Charlotte Dujardin, a double Olympic dressage champion, has been handed a one-year suspension by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) after her horse, Times Kismet, tested positive for a banned substance, morphine, following a competition in April 2024. The substance was found in the horse's system after the World Cup event in Leipzig, Germany. Dujardin, who has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, stated that the morphine likely came from contaminated feed. The FEI tribunal accepted that the contamination was accidental, but still imposed the suspension due to strict liability rules. This ruling has sparked a debate about the fairness of such strict liability in equestrian sports, where athletes can be held responsible for substances their horses ingest unintentionally.
