  • With world championships in March and the Milan-Cortina Olympics a year away, figure skater continues to push limits.

Ilia Malinin, an 18-year-old figure skater, won the U.S. Figure Skating Championships with a groundbreaking performance, becoming the first skater to land a quadruple Axel in competition and executing a total of seven quadruple jumps in his free skate. His routine, set to the "Succession" theme, included a quad Axel, quad Lutz, quad loop, quad Salchow, and three quad-triple combinations, showcasing his technical prowess. Despite some minor errors, his score of 310.47 points was enough to secure the title, surpassing second-place finisher Jason Brown by over 30 points. Malinin's victory not only highlighted his potential for the upcoming world championships but also solidified his reputation as a leading innovator in figure skating.
