Hiroto Ogiwara will leave Aspen with a fractured wrist and a gold medal. The 20-year-old Japanese snowboarder — who's also a student at Sendai University — landed the first melon 2340 in a competition on his way to X Games Aspen gold.

Hiroto Ogiwara, a 22-year-old Japanese snowboarder, clinched the gold medal in the Big Air event at the X Games held in Aspen, Colorado. Ogiwara, who had previously won silver in the same event, executed a complex trick known as the switch backside 1800 melon, which involves five full rotations while grabbing the board. His performance was highlighted by his ability to land this trick on his second attempt, showcasing his skill and innovation in snowboarding. This victory marks a significant achievement in his career, especially following his recovery from a severe injury in 2021 where he broke his neck.
