  • The IIHF announced Tuesday that the Russian and Belarusian national teams will remain barred from competition for at least another year.

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has decided to extend the expulsion of Russia and Belarus from its world championships through the 2025-26 season. This decision, made during the IIHF's annual congress in Las Vegas, continues the ban initially imposed due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The IIHF cited ongoing safety and security concerns for all participants as the reason for the continued exclusion. This means that teams from Russia and Belarus will not participate in any IIHF competitions, including the men's, women's, and junior world championships, for at least the next two seasons. The IIHF Council will reassess the situation in March 2024 to determine if conditions have changed sufficiently to allow their return.
