The IIHF announced today that the standing ban handed down on Russia and Belarus for sanctioned international competition will remain in place for the 2025-26 IIHF Championships. "Following its latest meeting this morning,

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has decided that Russia will not be reinstated for the 2025-26 IIHF Championships due to ongoing concerns about the safety of players, officials, and fans amidst the backdrop of the war in Ukraine. This decision was made despite Russia's appeal to be allowed back into international competition. The IIHF Council, after reviewing the situation, concluded that the current conditions do not provide a safe environment for the championships. Russia's exclusion extends to all IIHF competitions, including the men's, women's, and junior world championships. The IIHF will reassess the situation in March 2024 to determine if conditions have changed sufficiently to allow Russia's participation in future events.
