  • Lionel Messi and Inter Miami will open the Club World Cup against Egyptian club Al Ahly, with Palmeiras and Porto also part of that group for the tournament that will take place in the U.S. next year. The draw was held Thursday in Miami, with the 32 teams finally finding out their first three opponents in the newly expanded event.
Lionel Messi and Inter Miami will kick off their Club World Cup campaign against Egyptian club Al Ahly in the tournament's opening match on December 12, 2024, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This marks Inter Miami's debut in the competition, which features the champions from each of FIFA's six confederations, plus the host nation's league champion. Al Ahly, a powerhouse in African football, secured their spot by winning the CAF Champions League. The winner of this match will advance to face either Club León from Mexico or Urawa Red Diamonds from Japan in the semifinals. The Club World Cup, which has expanded to include more teams, offers Inter Miami a chance to make history as the first MLS team to win the tournament.
