  • World number three Coco Gauff said on Friday she decided to start her season at the United Cup instead of her happy hunting ground in Auckland as the event offers a higher level of competition and the chance to play as part of a team again.

Coco Gauff, the American tennis star, decided to skip the Auckland Classic to participate in the United Cup, a mixed team event in Australia, where she believes the competition level is higher. This choice was made to better prepare for the upcoming Australian Open, which starts on January 14, 2024. Gauff, who had a breakthrough year in 2023 by winning her first Grand Slam title at the U.S. Open, expressed her excitement about playing in Sydney for the United Cup, highlighting the event's significance in her preparation for the first major of the year.
