  • The Hanwha LIfePlus International Crown will have a new twist this year. The event will incorporate a World Team that will include golfers who otherwise would not have qualified via their country's selection.

The LPGA's International Crown, a biennial team match-play event, is undergoing a format change to include top players like Lydia Ko by expanding the team size from four to five players. This adjustment aims to ensure that more of the world's top-ranked golfers can participate, even if their countries do not have enough players to form a full team under the previous rules. The event, set to take place from May 4-7, 2023, at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, will now feature eight teams instead of nine, with each team consisting of five players. This change was influenced by the desire to include high-profile players whose countries might not have qualified under the old format, thereby enhancing the event's competitiveness and appeal. The new format also includes a round-robin stage followed by semifinals and a final, with the top two teams from each four-team pool advancing.
