  • Vanderbilt was fined by the SEC on Sunday for allowing fans to storm the court Saturday after the Commodores' win over No. 9 Kentucky.

The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has imposed a $250,000 fine on Vanderbilt University following a court-storming incident after their basketball team's upset victory over Kentucky on February 25, 2023. This fine is part of the SEC's escalating penalty structure for such events, marking the first time Vanderbilt has been fined for this issue. The fine could increase to $500,000 if there are further violations within the next two seasons. The incident involved fans rushing onto the court, which poses safety risks and disrupts the orderly conclusion of games. Vanderbilt has acknowledged the fine and is taking steps to prevent future occurrences, including enhanced security measures and fan education on the dangers of court storming.
