Ricky Mears, a four-time Indianapolis 500 winner, is set to return to the NASCAR Cup Series, not as a driver, but as a guest of Garage 56, a special entry at the Martinsville Speedway. This event, taking place on April 16, 2023, will see Mears join NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson and former F1 driver Mike Rockenfeller in a unique collaboration aimed at showcasing NASCAR's Garage 56 project, which features a modified Next Gen car designed for international competition. The car, which will also compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, will be driven by Johnson, Rockenfeller, and Jordan Taylor. Mears, who has a storied history in motorsport, will be there to support and share his expertise, marking a significant moment as he steps back into the NASCAR environment.
