The defending champion Westfield Bombers won a rematch of the 2024 Pioneer Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference Class A baseball championship, defeating Central 6-2 in a high school baseball opener Friday at Bullens Field.
The Westfield Bombers, defending champions, secured a victory against Central in a rematch of the 2024 Class A title game, winning 5-2. The game, held at Westfield High School, saw the Bombers take an early lead with a two-run homer by senior captain Jake Smith in the first inning. Central fought back, scoring two runs in the third, but Westfield responded with three more runs in the fifth, thanks to timely hitting and solid defense. Junior pitcher Alex Rodriguez earned the win, striking out seven over six innings, while senior reliever Mike Thompson closed out the game with a save. This victory marks the Bombers' strong start to the 2025 season, as they aim to defend their title.
