Japan Football Association president Tsuneyasu Miyamoto has said his country will consider bidding to host the 2039 Women's World Cup after FIFA's decision not to allow Asian nations to pitch for the rights to the 2031 or 2035 editions of the competition.
Japan is contemplating a bid to host the 2039 Women's World Cup following FIFA's decision to award the 2025 tournament to Brazil, as reported by Kyodo news agency on March 8, 2023. This interest stems from Japan's previous experience in hosting major soccer events, including the 2002 men's World Cup alongside South Korea and the 2019 Rugby World Cup. The Japan Football Association (JFA) sees this as an opportunity to leverage the country's infrastructure and experience in organizing large-scale international sports events. The decision to consider a bid for 2039 comes after FIFA's choice to move the 2025 Women's World Cup to Brazil, which was influenced by the need to avoid scheduling conflicts with the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2026 men's World Cup in North America.
