  • After a yearlong delay, the tech-infused golf league featuring Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and other stars is set to tee off Tuesday (9 p.m. ET, ESPN).

The inaugural season of TGL, a new golf league featuring a unique blend of technology and live action, is set to begin on January 9, 2024, at the SoFi Center in Florida. TGL, co-founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, will feature six teams of three PGA Tour players each, competing in a match play format on a virtual course with a real short-game area. The league aims to attract a younger audience by offering a faster-paced, two-hour event format, with matches scheduled for Monday nights. Key aspects include a 15-match regular season followed by playoffs, with the season concluding on March 26, 2024. The league has already secured significant broadcasting deals with ESPN and ESPN+, and has attracted high-profile investors. The innovative setup includes a large screen for long shots and a physical area for chipping and putting, aiming to blend traditional golf with modern technology to enhance viewer engagement.
