  • Ole Miss pulled a top-five upset at home over No. 4 Tennessee on Wednesday. Because of their celebration of that, the Rebels will now be paying the price again according to the Southeastern Conference.

The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has imposed a $100,000 fine on the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) following a court-storming incident after their basketball team's victory over No. 4 Tennessee. This fine is part of a graduated penalty system where the amount increases with each violation; Ole Miss had previously been fined $100,000 for similar incidents in 2016 and 2018. The SEC's policy aims to enhance safety by discouraging fans from rushing onto the court, with fines escalating to $250,000 for a third offense and $500,000 for any further offenses. The incident occurred after Ole Miss upset Tennessee with a score of 80-75, marking their first win against a top-five team since 2011.
